From July 23 to 26, 2024, volunteers from the Viqueque and Baucau branches participated in a comprehensive training program on Basic Psycho-Social Support. This essential training aimed to enhance the capacity of volunteers to respond effectively during emergencies, emphasizing self-care, peer support, and community assistance in disaster situations.
The training, which took place over four days, was attended by 40 dedicated participants, including 22 women and 18 men. The diverse group of volunteers engaged in various interactive sessions, learning critical skills necessary for providing emotional and psychological support to those affected by crises. These skills are crucial for ensuring the well-being of both the volunteers and the communities they serve.
Funded by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC Chronic-Crisis), this training underscores the commitment to building resilient communities capable of withstanding and recovering from emergencies. The IFRC’s support ensures that volunteers are well-equipped to offer immediate and effective assistance, bridging the gap between disaster response and long-term recovery.
Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their skills, noting that the training has significantly boosted their confidence in managing psycho-social challenges during emergencies. As these volunteers return to their respective branches, they carry with them valuable knowledge and tools to better support their communities in times of need.
