From December 20 to 26, 2024, volunteers from the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) team, launched a dengue awareness and fumigation campaign in preparation for the wet season. Targeting dengue-prone areas, the initiative aimed to educate communities about preventive measures and reduce the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
Working alongside the General Directorate of Primary Health Care (KSP) and the Municipal Health Service (SMS Díli), CVTL focused its efforts on intervention activities in affected areas, including Aimutin, Comoro, Bemori, Taibesi Market, Manleuana Market, and Haslaran Sub-Village. The team conducted fumigation to kill adult mosquitoes and raised awareness about eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.
Community education emphasized the importance of weekly actions such as emptying water from flowerpots, cleaning water bottles, tanks, and reservoirs, and ensuring no stagnant water is left unattended. These measures are critical in preventing mosquitoes from laying eggs and proliferating in residential areas.
The campaign underscored the shared responsibility of every household to prevent dengue. As the disease poses a deadly threat, CVTL and MoH continue to advocate for consistent community efforts to maintain clean environments and protect public health.
