On 4 July 2024, the CVTL Covalima Branch, under the STRONG Program (Sustainability Target with a Responsive and Optimistic Approach), organized a Nutrition Awareness activity at the Public General Secondary School in Suai, Covalima Municipality. This event aimed to enhance the nutritional knowledge of adolescent girls and young women, equipping them to lead productive lives and address the pervasive issue of intergenerational malnutrition.
The activity saw a remarkable turnout, with students displaying enthusiastic participation. The program was meticulously designed to educate the youth about the importance of nutrition and its direct impact on their health and future potential. Through interactive sessions and informative presentations, students gained a deeper understanding of malnutrition and its long-term consequences.
One of the key highlights of the event was the emphasis on practical strategies to combat malnutrition. The students learned about balanced diets, essential nutrients, and the significance of food hygiene. They were also encouraged to share this knowledge within their communities, fostering a broader impact in the fight against malnutrition in Timor-Leste, particularly in their villages.
The STRONG Program’s initiative received strong support from Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which provided both resources and expertise. The collaboration between CVTL and CRS underscores a shared commitment to improving community health and breaking the cycle of malnutrition that affects many families in the region.
The success of this Nutrition Awareness activity signifies a positive step towards a healthier future for the youth of Covalima Municipality. By empowering young women with knowledge and practical skills, the program aims to create a ripple effect, inspiring change and fostering a healthier generation in Timor-Leste.
