The Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL) proudly took part in the 2025 Emergency Response Unit Information & Telecoms Training (ERU ITT) held in Vienna, Austria. The intensive, week-long program brought together technical specialists from the selected national Red Cross societies, focusing on developing emergency IT and telecommunications response capabilities in disaster situations.
The training covered a broad range of topics essential for field operations, from AC/DC power network planning and solar energy setups to advanced IT infrastructure deployment and satellite communications. Each day featured a hands-on focus such as Mikrotik network configurations, VPN and WLAN setups, antenna installation, and VHF radio planning. Participants engaged in practical workshops and simulations, reinforcing their technical skills in real-world emergency response contexts.
Representing CVTL was Mr. Nelson dos Santos, an IT Specialist, who shared his enthusiasm for the opportunity. “I’m very happy to be part of this training. It’s unlike any other training I’ve experienced because I met IT experts and saw advanced IT platforms in action. This has boosted my confidence in managing CVTL’s Microsoft 365 and Starlink systems more securely and efficiently,” he said.
CVTL’s participation was made possible through funding support from the Australian Red Cross (ARC), a key partner in strengthening the capacity of CVTL’s emergency response and digital infrastructure. This kind of international cooperation helps ensure that the Timor-Leste Red Cross is well-prepared to provide rapid and efficient assistance during disasters.
The training was attended by Red Cross representatives from several countries, including the American Red Cross, Austrian Red Cross, Finnish Red Cross, Spanish Red Cross, Fijian Red Cross, and Croatian Red Cross, alongside Timor-Leste. The event not only strengthened technical expertise but also fostered stronger collaboration between Red Cross societies around the globe.
