From August 6 to 8, 2024, the Viqueque and Baucau Branches of the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) held a comprehensive Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) training session for their volunteers and staff. This initiative aimed to strengthen the engagement of staff and volunteers while ensuring accountability in climate-related disaster response efforts across both regions.
The training program, which was conducted with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) under the Chronic Crisis funding, was designed to equip participants with essential skills in disaster response. The sessions included a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical exercises, such as simulation drills, to better prepare the teams for real-world scenarios.
A key component of the training was the introduction of Kobo Collect, a data collection tool that enhances the efficiency and accuracy of gathering information during disaster situations. Participants were trained on how to use this tool effectively, ensuring that data-driven decisions can be made swiftly during emergencies.
The activity had a total of 34 participants, with 16 representatives from the Viqueque Branch (Female – 4 and Male – 12) and 18 from the Baucau Branch (Female – 6 and Male – 12).
By the end of the three-day training, volunteers and staff members were better equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to engage communities effectively and uphold accountability in their disaster response efforts. This training marks a significant step forward in enhancing the resilience of communities in Viqueque and Baucau against climate-related challenges.
