Focused on International Rules and Standards for Policing, the event brought togetherย  22 Commanders from the PNTL representing all 13 municipalities. This initiative not only serves as a platform for knowledge exchange but also underscores the pivotal role of collaboration in ensuring effective policing in Timor-Leste.

Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (Timor-Leste Red Cross – CVTL) made a presentation to the workshop talking about CVTL, our activities and our role as an auxiliary to the government of Timor-Leste. This participation reflects the commitment of humanitarian organizations to actively engage with law enforcement, emphasizing the interconnectedness of their roles in promoting safety and well-being within the community.

This workshop signifies a significant chapter in the enduring partnership between the ICRC and PNTL, a collaboration that has evolved and strengthened since Timor-Leste’s declaration of independence in 2000. The shared commitment to excellence in policing was formalized in 2019 through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, highlighting the joint dedication to imparting essential life-saving techniques, including first aid.

The emphasis on International Rules and Standards for Policing underscores the operational relevance of the workshop. As Timor-Leste continues to navigate its unique challenges, aligning law enforcement practices with international standards is crucial for fostering a secure environment and ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights.

The collaborative efforts of the ICRC, PNTL, and CVTL set the stage for continued progress in policing standards in Timor-Leste. The exchange of knowledge and experiences during these two days is expected to contribute to the on-going development of a robust and internationally aligned policing system, furthering the goal of ensuring the safety and well-being of the Timorese community.
