From May 22 to 24, 2024, the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) and the Civil Protection Authority conducted a joint regional level First Aid training for members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Management Commission (KJRDM/MDRMC) and the CVTL Branch Disaster Response Team. The training aimed to enhance the readiness and response capabilities of these teams in handling emergencies.
This training marked the first phase for Region I and Region III. Region I includes the Municipalities of Baucau, Lautem, and Viqueque, while Region III encompasses Aileu, Ainaro, Covalima, and Manufahi. A total of 40 participants attended the training, consisting of 6 women and 34 men, reflecting a commitment to inclusive capacity-building efforts.
The primary goal of the training was to strengthen institutional capacity, ensuring that participants are well-equipped with the necessary tactics and knowledge to respond effectively in emergency situations. The curriculum covered a range of first aid techniques, emergency response strategies, and practical exercises to simulate real-life scenarios.
Support for this initiative came from the Australian Red Cross (ARC), whose funding facilitated the comprehensive training program. The collaboration between CVTL, the Civil Protection Authority, and ARC underscores the importance of coordinated efforts in disaster preparedness and response.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the training, noting that it significantly improved their confidence and competence in emergency situations. The success of this training sets a strong foundation for future phases and continued development of disaster response capabilities across Timor-Leste.
