Dili, 17 May 2024 – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has embarked on a significant mission to strengthen ties with the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL). Representing the ICRC, Ms. Tara Montgomery, Operations Coordinator for Asia and the Pacific, met with the Secretary General of CVTL in Dili today.
Ms. Montgomery’s visit underscores the ICRC’s commitment to bolstering its partnership with CVTL, the national Red Cross society of Timor-Leste. The main objective of this visit is to enhance cooperation and coordinate efforts in humanitarian activities across the region.
During her stay, Ms. Montgomery engaged in detailed discussions with the Secretary General of CVTL. These discussions focused on current humanitarian challenges, potential joint initiatives, and strategies to improve the efficiency of response mechanisms during crises.
A highlight of the visit was Ms. Montgomery’s tour of one of CVTL’s branch offices in Dili. Here, she witnessed firsthand the critical work being done by local volunteers and staff. This branch plays a pivotal role in the community, providing essential services such as health care, disaster relief, and community-based programs.
The ICRC’s collaboration with CVTL is crucial in addressing the humanitarian needs of Timor-Leste. By working together, the two organizations aim to leverage their strengths and resources to provide more effective support to vulnerable populations.
