Strategic Partnership Plan Workshop in Dili Enhances Disaster Risk Management in Timor-Leste

On June 4-5, 2024, the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) in collaboration with the American Red Cross organized a pivotal workshop in Dili to develop a Strategic Partnership Plan (SPP). This initiative aims to outline the overarching goals for a five-year partnership focusing on Disaster Risk Management and National Society (NS) development in Timor-Leste. The SPP is designed to align with and contribute to the expected outcomes of the new CVTL Strategic Development Plan 2025-2030 and the Unified Plan with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The workshop marks a significant milestone for CVTL. The Secretary General of CVTL highlighted its importance, stating, “This workshop is a crucial step for CVTL as it lays the foundation for a strategic partnership that will enhance our capacity to manage disasters and develop our national society over the next five years.”

Key stakeholders attended the workshop, including the Secretary General of CVTL, representatives from the Red Cross Climate Center, heads of various departments, branch leaders, youth representatives, and members of the American Red Cross. Their collective expertise and collaboration are expected to bring about a comprehensive and effective strategy for disaster risk management in the region.

The workshop underscored the commitment of both CVTL and the American Red Cross to build a resilient and prepared community in Timor-Leste. As the plans move forward, the outcomes of this workshop will be instrumental in shaping the future of disaster risk management and national society development in the country.
