The JUPRO Begins

19.6.23 Baucau JUPRO

And so the JUPRO begins…

After months of planning, hundreds and hundreds of CVTL Youth Volunteers have gathered together for the opening of the JUPRO (Juventude Productivu) based in the Municipality of Baucau in Darasula Hamlet, Gariuai Village.

Youth aged between 12 and 25 years old came from across Timor-Leste as well as from our Sister national Societies of Korea, Singapore and Indonesia (PMI), and is the fourth Red Cross Youth Camp held by Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (Red Cross Timor-Leste – CVTL) and this year’s theme is Highly Effective and Sustainable Humanitarian Action.

The opening was lively and colourful. The ceremony was opened by the Director-General of the SEJD (Secretariat for Youth and Sports), and accompanied by the Secretary of the Administrator of the Municipality of Baucau, the Commander of the PNTL of Baucau, the Chief of Gariuai Village the Chief of Darasula Hamlet, the Civil Protection Authority (APC), the Baucau Fire-fighters, the IFRC and ICRC Delegation in Timor-Leste, Interim President of CVTL, Secretary General CVTL, CVTL Youth President CVTL and members of the community.

After the opening speeches and the flag raising ceremony, a Marching Band from the School of Informatics Technology (ETI Baucau), provided a steady beat to young girls dancing and doing gymnastics – with spectacular results and eye-popping moves. This was followed by dignitaries meeting all the youth and visiting their campsites from each Municipality showing their arts, crafts and other activities they do in their Branches.

The whole event was live-streamed for three and half hours, so those who could not attend, could be part of it . (There will be more live-streaming of events throughout the Camp.

The CVTL Youth Camp is held to give support to Red Cross Youth and provide opportunities to grow and become stronger members of the community. It supports Youth to become better leaders of Timor-Leste and the Region. As young Red Cross Volunteers, they can develop their roles and responsibilities to support the Mission of the CVTL, and fundamental principles especially the values of humanitarianism and the spirit of voluntarism in helping to alleviate and reduce poverty.

This Youth Volunteer Camp is bilaterally funded by the Office of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, as well as Singapore Red Cross, Korea Red Cross and Australian Red Cross. We are very grateful for their financial support; without them this event could not have been realized.
