CVTL handed over water system to communities in Atauro

15th  September, 2023 Atauro Island – CVTL Secretary General Mr. Luis Pedro Pinto together with the Advisor to the Vice Prime Minister Mr.Nelson Filomeno Santos, the Executive Director of SASCAS Mr. Edvin Noronha, and Local Authorities joined together part in the handover ceremony for a  water system to the Aldeias of  Maker, Atekru, Adara, Arlo, and Beloi. on the western side of Atauro Island.

The work for the water system started 7 years ago and benefits 379 households with a total of 1547 people (F – 810 M -737). It included the installation of 18 water tanks, 37 public taps and 41,523 meters of pipe were installed in total.

CVTL and the communities would like to thank all the donors for helping the lives of so many families and solving the arduous task of collecting water every day and making life much easier.

This water system had funding three phases, and became a reality because of support from: Australian red Cross, IFRC, New Zealand Red Cross and British Red Cross for Phase I Consortium, By SASCAS for phase II and New Zealand Red Cross for Phase III ICBRR.

The ICBRR program is  truly integrated, and is not only the  construction of a water system. CVTL uses the opportunity to implementation socialization on community health  promotion and prevention activities;  building on the skills of the community with a focus on livelihoods to improve family income per household;  disaster risk reduction training ; and youth activities.
